Mardi Gras Day!

NEW YORK (AP) — Northwestern quarterback Dan Persa was named the surprise winner of the Heisman Trophy at the Downtown Athletic Club on Sunday night. Insiders believe a robust marketing campaign clinched the award for Persa, who missed six games due to injury and threw only four touchdown passes against nine interceptions for the 5-7 Wildcats. 

“This is truly a dream come true,” Persa said. “I’m glad that money they spent to put up a billboard in Bristol wasn’t the colossal waste of University dollars that it appeared to be at the time.”

Boise State quarterback Kellen Moore, who passed for 5,366 yard and 67 touchdowns and led the Broncos  to the Fiesta Bowl in their inaugural season in the Mountain West Conference, placed a distant second in the voting. Moore was gracious in defeat.

“Persa earned it,” he said, fighting through tears. “It was a pretty bitchin’ billboard.”
